Fire

On 11 December 2005, vapour from thousands of gallons of petrol ignited causing an explosion measuring 2.4 on the Richter Scale. It was Britain’s most costly industrial disaster.

Immediately the fire was extinguished clean up had to begin as the area was covered in a combination of oil and foam fire extinguisher. This needed to be vacuumed up for reclamation of the oil and to prevent further damage to the earth which was absorbing this cocktail. We got a call at 5:15 pm by a desperate contractor who had left a London pump competitor empty handed. “I’m so glad your are still working” he said, “They haven’t got any pumps in stock and we are desperate for two 3″ pumps to clean up the site”. By 7am the next morning we had delivered two 3″ pumps including pulsation dampeners to site, where they spent the next few weeks cleaning the land and filling truck after truck with the foam and oil to go off for the oil reclamation.
